Need for speed in Kostroma region

Today I will talk about one event. This is not a historical event, but the event is very interesting. This is a drag racing competition. Drag racing is racing. Double sprint race at a distance of 402 meters. Two cars or two motorbikes start at a signal and race these 402 meters, trying to get around each other.

It so happened that some of my clients were sponsors in these competitions and invited me to go. Interestingly, these competitions take place a hundred kilometers from Kostroma, not far from the city of Bui in the village of Baranovo.

There is a small section of a perfectly flat and well-paved road. This is a piece of unfinished federal highway. On this track, and there are competitions.

As I understand it, these competitions began a long time ago and they have a rich history.

I was at such an event for the first time and everything was out of the ordinary for me.

The first thing I saw was a large number of people who came to this event. Along the route there were a lot of spectators.

A starting mechanism was installed on the road. Behind the start line, teams gathered. There were a lot of cars that registered to participate in these competitions.

Spectators gathered on one side of the road. There were also tents with drinks and snacks. In some places, improvised cafes with hot food were opened. You could eat kebabs or pasties.

In short, the infrastructure for the competition was on top. A commentator with a microphone worked on the start line, telling about all the events taking place at a distance.

In addition to the race itself, the moments of preparing the cars for launch were interesting. In particular, warming up rubber on wheels. Several people held the car and another member of the team poured water under the wheels. The pilot clicked on the gas and the car skidded in place. As a result of friction, the wheels warmed up and the coefficient of adhesion to the road increased. It would seem that these are trifles, but at such a short distance of 402 meters, any nuance matters.

After some time, I realized how everything happens. Teams call to start on the list. All participants are divided into groups according to engine power. The loser is eliminated.

I drew attention to a strange car, built on the basis of the domestic car Lada.

This car won from time to time and as it turned out at the very end - this was the winner in its category.

I saw how, after arrival, the top cover was removed from the engine to cool the engine faster. Moreover, it should be noted that the team serving the car does everything very quickly. This is similar to formula one.
