It is not often we find some added culture among the existing nature of Northern Finland but a French cafe is unusual.
I was at a lose end because my wife had to get her nails done before we head south for the winter like many of the smarter birds do. So, what is there to do for an hour in Kuusamo? Well, not much. A bit of shopping in the supermarket for a few essentials like cheese, poo bags for the dog, razors because I'm getting a bit hairy and some disposable spoons. Well that took up 15 minutes I will never get back.
By this time I was getting ready for a coffee. I walked around the small town centre of Kuusamo until I had seen everything from the church, several grills / pizza restaurant, bars and cafes until I came across the French cafe. For me, the idea of a French cafe is dangerous because I really love cake but I have been on a keto diet for a few years. However I was needing a good coffee which is not always available in Finnish cafes. Don’t get me wrong, I love Finnish coffee, but it is a bit of a hit or miss game to find a cafe that makes a good one.
OK, let's get back to the story of the French cafe.
I needed a coffee, so the best choice was the French cafe.
The service was very good and I would highly recommend visiting this cafe, however for many tourists 5€ for a Café latte is a bit expensive. They have a large selection of savoury and sweets things to eat which looks like they were created by a professional chef.
