Waking up early on a quiet autumn morning has become one of my favourite weekend rituals. There's something special about setting out for a peaceful walk along the coast, with the sound of waves crashing against the shore and the first light of day touching the sea. Today, I decided to head to Foz and Praia da Luz, where the stunning views and fresh sea breeze always make for a perfect start to the day.
Every Saturday morning, as part of my usual routine, I lace up my walking shoes and head out to the stunning landscapes. There's something deeply calming about these early hours when the world is still waking up and today was no exception. With the soft glow of the morning sun beginning to rise, I set off on my walk, breathing in the fresh autumn air.

Todos os sábados de manhã, como parte da minha rotina habitual, amarro os sapatos de caminhada e parto em direção às paisagens deslumbrantes. Há algo de profundamente calmante nestas primeiras horas em que o mundo ainda está a acordar e hoje não foi exceção. I always prefer walking early in the morning, not just for the peaceful solitude, but also for the unique way the light touches everything. It's the best time to enjoy these coastal gems. The streets are quiet, the beaches almost empty, and the only sound I hear is the rhythm of my footsteps and the soft crash of waves hitting the shore. The esplanades that are usually packed with people enjoying coffee or breakfast are still closed at this hour. It's far too early for that, but that's what makes it even more special. The quiet feels like a gift and I have the place all to myself for a little while.

Prefiro sempre caminhar de manhã cedo, não só pela solidão tranquila, mas também pela forma única como a luz toca tudo. É a melhor altura para desfrutar destas joias costeiras. As ruas estão calmas, as praias quase vazias, e o único som que ouço é o ritmo dos meus passos e o suave bater das ondas que batem na costa. As esplanadas que costumam estar apinhadas de gente a tomar café ou pequeno-almoço continuam fechadas a esta hora. É muito cedo para isso, mas é isso que o torna ainda mais especial. O silêncio parece uma dádiva, e tenho o lugar só para mim durante algum tempo.
As I continue walking, I make my way along the coastal path that offers some of the best views of the Atlantic. The vastness of the ocean is breathtaking. There's nothing quite like it standing there, watching the sea stretch out endlessly in front of you. The morning light dances across the water. The cool, salty breeze brushes against my face.

It's easy to get lost in thought when you're walking beside the sea. I think about how much I love this part of the world, how lucky I am to call this my weekend routine. It's autumn now, and while the summer crowds have long gone, the beauty of Foz and Praia da Luz remains just as captivating. The temperature is perfect for a long walk, cool but not cold, warm but not hot. These are the gentle, mild autumn mornings that make me appreciate this season even more.

É fácil perder-se em pensamentos quando caminha à beira-mar. Penso no quanto adoro esta parte do mundo, na sorte que tenho por lhe chamar a minha rotina de fim de semana. Estamos agora no Outono e, embora as multidões de Verão já tenham passado, a beleza da Foz e da Praia da Luz continua igualmente cativante. A temperatura é perfeita para uma longa caminhada, fresca mas não fria, morna mas não quente. Estas são as manhãs suaves e amenas de outono que me fazem apreciar ainda mais esta estação.
As I pass the esplanades, I notice they are still closed, as expected. It's too early for the usual hustle and bustle of the cafes. By midday, these spots will be filled with people sipping espresso and enjoying pastries, but for now, they stand empty, waiting for the day to start.

Although it's autumn, the sun is shining brightly. The sky is clear, a soft blue. It's one of those autumn weekends where the weather feels like a perfect blend of summer warmth and the coolness that comes with the changing seasons.

The weekends here are always a bit quieter during this time of year, and it's easy to see why. The tourists have mostly gone, leaving the beaches and streets for those, like me, who appreciate the beauty of this season. I can hear the distant call of a few seagulls and the faint sound of the waves crashing against the shore. It's a peaceful, beautiful sound that seems to echo through the empty streets.

Os fins de semana aqui são sempre um pouco mais calmos nesta altura do ano e é fácil perceber porquê. A maioria dos turistas já se foi embora, deixando as praias e as ruas para quem, como eu, aprecia a beleza desta época. Consigo ouvir o chamamento distante de algumas gaivotas e o som fraco das ondas a rebentarem na costa. É um som bonito e pacífico que parece ecoar pelas ruas vazias.
I get another incredible view of the sea. It's the kind of view that makes you stop in your tracks, no matter how many times you've seen it before. The gardens here provide a perfect contrast to the wild, untamed beauty of the ocean. The combination of nature's vibrancy on land and the calm, infinite stretch of sea creates a balance that is hard to describe in words. It's the kind of thing you just have to experience for yourself.

Tenho outra vista incrível para o mar. É o tipo de visão que o faz parar a meio do caminho, não importa quantas vezes já a tenha visto antes. Os jardins aqui proporcionam um contraste perfeito com a beleza selvagem e indomada do oceano. A combinação da vibração da natureza em terra e da extensão calma e infinita do mar cria um equilíbrio que é difícil de descrever por palavras. É o tipo de coisa que só tem de experimentar por si mesmo.
As I near the end of my walk, I start to feel the day waking up around me. The cafes are beginning to open, and I can hear the clatter of dishes and the hum of espresso machines starting to fill the air. More people are starting to appear and the quiet, peaceful streets of the early morning are slowly giving way to the familiar buzz of weekend life.

Ao aproximar-me do final da minha caminhada, começo a sentir o dia a acordar à minha volta. Os cafés começam a abrir e ouço o barulho dos pratos e o zumbido das máquinas de café expresso a começar a encher o ar. Mais pessoas começam a aparecer, e as ruas calmas e tranquilas do início da manhã estão lentamente a dar lugar à agitação familiar da vida de fim de semana.
Even though autumn is in full swing, and the cooler months are just around the corner, days like this make me appreciate the beauty of every season. There's something special about walking through these familiar places, knowing that no matter the time of year, they'll always be here waiting for me to enjoy them again.
