Hi there my Steemian friends and followers!
In my little special series called Christmas traditions of Czech Republic, I have already introduced you to one of the most popular Czech Christmas customs in this post about predicting future from apple, I have showed you what most Czech families eat on the Christmas Eve in this post about the crispy fried carp with potato salad and today, we will take a closer look at the most popular Christmas pastime in the Czech Republic and that is watching fairy tales on TV.
I know that watching fairy tales at Christmas is popular in many countries all over the world but I think we are really fanatic when it comes to this tradition. At Christmas, most Czech TV channels (both public and commercial) broadcast fairy tales all day long so even if you wanted, you basically couldn´t watch anything else :D
There is a bunch of fairy tales that are considered the ultimate Christmas icons that everyone has to watch (at least once but preferably more than once) each Christmas. These include:
Tři oříšky pro Popelku (Three Wishes for Cinderella)

Byl jednou jeden král (Once Upon a Time There Was a King)

In fact, there are many other fairy tales that would fit into this category but I just wanted to give you a few examples here. By the way, is any of these Czech fairy tales familiar to you? We keep hearing in our media that many of our fairy tales are actually popular in other countries too. Three Wishes for Cinderella, for example, is supposed to be popular in Germany, Austria, Norway, Spain and many other European countries. I have some Steemian friends from these countries so hopefully, we will get some feedback on this issue from them :)
And how about you guys? Do you also watch fairy tales on TV at Christmas? If so, what are the most popular fairy tales in your countries? Please share their names in the comment section below, I would love to see them :)
Note: Most of the fairy tales that I mentioned above don´t have official English names so please take the awkward translations with a grain of salt ;) Also, the photos featured in this post are not mine so I stated the sources below them.
I hope you all had a wonderful and blessed Christmas.
