Hallo liebe Community,
nun war es also soweit und wir checkten aus dem Hotel in Ybor City aus und fuhren mit dem Uber zur Budget Abholstation unseres Leihwagens, den wir für 1 Woche gemietet hatten. Im Erdgeschoss eines großen Hotels in der Innenstadt von Tampa gelegen fanden wir das ca. 2 Quadratmeter große Büro und bekamen auch relativ schnell unseren Wagen, einen Mazda CX5. Etwas enttäuschend, da von der Größe her vergleichbar mit mittelgroßen SUVs bei uns in Deutschland. Eben kein riesiges amerikanisches Schiff, wie in den letzten Urlauben. Aber war schon in Ordnung.
Durch Tampa bahnten wir uns dann den Weg zu einem kleinen Zwischenstop, den wir noch eingeplant hatten. Als American Football Fans wollten wir natürlich auch das Stadion der Tampa Bay Bucceneers sehen. Da es noch recht früh am Morgen war, waren wir ganz allein am Stadion und mächtig beeindruckt von der schieren Größe des Raymond James Stadions, in dem vor 2 Jahren noch der GOAT Tom Brady gespielt hat. Leider war der Teamstore noch geschlossen und wir mussten weiter auf unserer Fahrt nach Cape Coral.
Vorbei an der Skyline von Tampa fuhren wir sehr entspannt auf dem Highway, nur kurz unterbrochen von einer kleinen Verfolgungsjagd, die sich ein Raser mit einem Statetrooper lieferte. An der nächsten Ausfahrt sahen wir dann, dass der Statetrooper natürlich gewonnen hatte und bereits die Papiere des Mannes kontrollierte. Auch sahen wir immer wieder Pickup Trucks mit Fahnen oder Aufklebern die den neuen/alten Präsidenten Donald Trump unterstützten. Verstehen muss man die Amerikaner nicht aber jedem das seine.
Auf halber Stecke machten wir einen ausgiebigen Stop im Miromar Outlet Center in Estero. Die Miromar Outlets in Estero sind ein beliebtes Einkaufsziel und bekannt für ihre mediterrane Dorfarchitektur, die üppige Landschaftsgestaltung und die hohen Rabatte auf Designer- und Markenartikel. Also ließen wir die Kreditkarte glühen und deckten uns mit neuen Klamotten ein. Ein Erlebnis, das bei einem USA Aufenthalt nie fehlen darf. Hier kann man wirklich richtig Geld sparen im vergleich zu Deutschland. Begünstigt wurde dies dieses Jahr noch durch den sehr günstigen Dollarkurs, der durch Trumps hirnrissige "Politik" im Keller war. Hier konnten wir auch leckeres chinesisches Essen genießen, bevor wir unseren Weg nach Cape Coral fortsetzten.
In Cape Coral fanden wir mit Hilfe des Navis auch schnell unser für eine Woche angemietetes Ferienhaus in einem der rund um die vielen Kanäle angelegten Wohngebiete direkt am Caloosahatchee River und trugen erstmal Koffer und die ganzen Einkaufstüten von GAP, Nike, Adidas und Hilfiger ins Haus. Dann inspizierten wir das haus und waren begeistert. 3 Schlafzimmer, 2 Wohnzimmer, 2 Bäder und ein toller Außenbereich mit Sitzecken, Esstisch und großem Pool. Alles ganz toll eingerichtet, mit vielen liebevoll zusammengetragenen Details. Was will man mehr? Etwas geschafft vom anstrengenden Tag fuhren wir nochmal kurz weg und aßen bei Taco Bell lecker zu Abend. Dann war es auch schon dunkel und wir gingen müde zu Bett. Voller Vorfreude auf die kommende Woche, die wir hier in Cape Coral in unserem schönen Ferienhaus verbringen würden.

So the time had come. We checked out of the hotel in Ybor City and took an Uber to the Budget pick-up station for our rental car, which we had rented for a week. Located on the ground floor of a large hotel in downtown Tampa, we found the approximately 2-square-meter office and got our car, a Mazda CX5, relatively quickly. A bit disappointing, as the size was comparable to mid-size SUVs we have in Germany. It wasn't a huge American car like on our last vacations. But it was okay.
We then made our way through Tampa to a short stop we had planned. As American football fans, we naturally wanted to see the Tampa Bay Buccaneers stadium. Since it was still quite early in the morning, we were completely alone at the stadium and were extremely impressed by the sheer size of Raymond James Stadium, where the GOAT Tom Brady had played two years ago. Unfortunately, the team store was still closed, and we had to continue on our journey to Cape Coral.
We drove past the Tampa skyline in a very relaxed manner along the highway, only briefly interrupted by a short chase between a speeding driver and a state trooper. At the next exit, we saw that the state trooper had obviously won and was already checking the man's ID. We also repeatedly saw pickup trucks with flags or stickers supporting the new/old President Donald Trump. You don't have to understand Americans, but to each his own.
Halfway through the trip, we made a long stop at the Miromar Outlet Center in Estero. The Miromar Outlets in Estero are a popular shopping destination known for their Mediterranean village architecture, lush landscaping, and deep discounts on designer and brand-name items. So we maxed out our credit cards and stocked up on new clothes. An experience that should never be missed during a stay in the USA. You can really save a lot of money here compared to Germany. This year, this was further helped by the very favorable dollar exchange rate, which had plummeted due to Trump's idiotic "politics." Here, we were also able to enjoy delicious Chinese food before continuing on to Cape Coral.
In Cape Coral, with the help of the navigation system, we quickly found our vacation home, which we had rented for a week, in one of the residential areas built around the many canals, right on the Caloosahatchee River. We first carried our suitcases and all the shopping bags from GAP, Nike, Adidas, and Hilfiger into the house. Then we inspected the house and were thrilled. 3 bedrooms, 2 living rooms, 2 bathrooms, and a great outdoor area with seating areas, a dining table, and a large pool. Everything was beautifully furnished, with many lovingly selected details. What more could you want? A bit tired from the strenuous day, we drove away for a short while and had a delicious dinner at Taco Bell. Then it was already dark, and we went to bed tiredly. Full of anticipation for the coming week, which we would spend here in Cape Coral in our beautiful vacation home.
