Happy start to the week everyone! Today I want to talk about what became my favorite area of Rome from the first time I came here: the area around Castel Sant'Angelo. I want to make it clear that I didn't go inside the castle, but I passed through this area many times, as it's the last imposing building just before entering Vatican City. A short walk from here is practically like entering the smallest country in the world. In front of the castle is the beautiful Tiber River and this bridge, the most special of all the bridges in the area, in my opinion, because it has various sculptures along its length and it can only be traversed on foot, as it is not for vehicular traffic like the others.

¡Feliz inicio de semana para todos!. Hoy quiero hablar de lo que se convirtió en mi zona preferida de Roma desde el primer momento en que pasé por aquí. Se trata de los alrededores del Castillo de Sant' Angelo. Quiero dejar muy claro que no entré al castillo, pero pasé por esta zona muchas veces, ya que la última edificación imponente justo antes de adentrarse a Ciudad del Vaticano, ya que caminando pocos minutos desde aquí se puede decir que entras al país más pequeño del mundo. Frente al castillo está el hermoso Río Tiber y este puente, el más especial de todos los puentes de la zona, en mi opinión, ya que tiene diversas esculturas a lo largo y se puede recorrer solo ha pie, ya que no es para transito vehicular como los demas.
The photos I'm sharing today were taken on the very day of the canonization of the Venezuelan saints. It was a Sunday, and my group and I had just finished lunch near Piazza Navona. Everyone had already made plans, and it seemed I was the only one who wanted to see the white marble sculptures on this bridge in detail. So, I wandered off for about an hour, and it was my only moment alone during my entire time in Rome. The place was packed with people, as you can see in the photos—it's impossible to keep them out of the picture—but the sculptures are so large that it doesn't detract from what I want to show you here. I felt so happy walking along the riverbank, photographing so much art and natural beauty—a unique and unforgettable moment, however humble it may seem.
Las fotografías que comparto hoy fue justo del día de la canonización de los santos venezolanos, era un Domingo, y mi grupo y yo acabábamos de almorzar en una zona cercana a la Plaza Navona. Ya todos tenían sus planes, y parece que el único que quería ver a detalle las esculturas de mármol blanco de este puente era yo, así que me separé aproximadamente una hora y fue mi único momento a solas en toda mi experiencia en Roma. El lugar estaba lleno de gente como pueden ver en las fotos, es imposible que no salieran, pero las esculturas son tan grandes que no afecta lo que pretendo mostrarles aquí. Me sentí muy feliz caminando al borde del río, y fotografiando tanto arte y belleza natural, un momento único e inolvidable, por más humilde que parezca.
The first photo I shared above was taken from Via del Banco di Santo Spiritu and Piazza di Ponte di Sant'Angelo. I mention this to highlight that the only sculptures facing away from the street are those of Saint Peter and Saint Paul. Beyond them, there are 10 more sculptures, all angels holding something related to the Passion of Jesus. I get the impression that each statue is about 3 meters tall. It's very impressive to see them up close and know that they're there in the street for everyone to appreciate for free—just Rome being Rome. I don't know if it seems silly to come here solely to see the art and take pictures, but for me it was a big experience, and I made sure to commit all of this to memory, in case life doesn't allow me to return... But of course I'll be back. I threw my coins into the Trevi Fountain 😅
La primera fotografía que les compartí arriba la tomé desde la Via del Banco Di Santo Spiritu y la Piazza di Ponte di Sant'Angelo, menciono esto para destacar que las únicas esculturas que ven hacia otra zona son las de San Pedro y San Pablo. Luego de ellas, hay otras 10 esculturas, pero todos son ángeles que sostienen algo relacionado a la pasión de Jesús; me da la impresión de que las estatuas son de aproximadamente 3 metros de altura cada una. Es muy impresionante verlas de cerca y saber que están ahí en la calle para que todos podamos apreciarlo gratis, simplemente Roma siendo Roma. No sé si les parezca tonto venir aquí exclusivamente a ver el arte y tomar fotografías, pero para mí fue algo grande, y me aseguré de guardar todo esto en mi mente, por si la vida no me permite volver... Pero claro que volveré, arrojé mis monedas en la Fontana di Trevi 😅

Even though it was a work trip, I enjoyed it to the fullest. Another reason to return to the Eternal City is to actually visit Castel Sant'Angelo. If there's so much beauty just in its facade and surroundings, there must be so much to see inside as well. Otro motivo para volver a la ciudad eterna es visitar realmente el Castillo de Sant'Angelo, ya que si hay tanta belleza solo en su fachada y en sus al rededores debe haber mucho que ver dentro también.
