Hi Tasteemians!
I have never been to Japan, but the vibe in Kyoaji restaurant is exactly how I would imagine it to be. It is located in a fancy shopping centre, the one where classical or jazz music constantly plays, everything is sparkling clean and smells nice. The restaurant itself is traditional and sophisticated with polite and professional, but a bit reserved staff.
KYOAJI mean “Taste from KYOTO”. Located at the heart of Singapore, the restaurant is set up with warm Japanese ambience to embrace you with the warm of Japanese culture and cuisine.
I liked how they wore Japanese kimonos, it contributed to the Japanese vibe! What I also consider a huge plus is having an open kitchen where you can see chefs carefully preparing your meal. Executive chef, John Phua, has almost 30 years of experience in authentic Japanese cuisine which is he very passionate about.
To please your expectation, we ensure the freshness of fishes and seasonal seafood are supply by air flown. The quality of each procurement is reassured by an ultra low temperature storage facility in Singapore.
There are lunch and dinner full menus available, as well as many other dishes you can choose. We went for a dinner and ordered number 3 Unagi Tori Katsu Gozen and number 6 Shake Sashimi Tai Gozen.
Unagi Tori Katsu Gozen, 25 SGD - salad, apetizer, eel, chicken, pickles, rice, soup and dessert.
Shake Sashimi Tai Gozen, 23 SGD - salad, apetizer, sea bream, salmon, sashimi, pickles, rice, soup and dessert.
Food was extremely tasty and you could feel how it was prepared with much patience and care. This is the place where I ate some pretty good salmon, maybe the best in my life! It wasn’t smoked or salty, just a soft, fulfilling and gentle taste served with wasabi sauce.
Green tea cost only 1.5 SGD and they keep pouring it whenever our glass wasn’t full. We ended up drinking at least 5 glasses of it.
And the dessert made of green tea and read sweet beans for the end of this beautiful dinner!
One more thing to mention is that in Singaporean restaurants you will often pay additional 10% service charge and 7% Goods and Services Tax (GST). You can read more about it here
All the best,
Ivna
