Hi Architecture + Design Buddies...

When travel to Takayama, I saw a mix of modern and traditional in this area. It is Takayama Old Town located in Gifu Prefecture, precisely Okayama. I will take you look around while telling what I feel there.

Takayama Old Town

I have been in Japan for a long time, there are still many places I have never visited. Takayama Old Town is one of the places I have visited for the first time. A few years ago I only focused on exploring Tokyo and its surroundings because it was closer to my dorm. This time my adventures have increased because I no longer live in Tokyo, but in a village that is very close to nature. So that I can travel to Takayama because Takayama close to my flat. It's not literally close, but comparing to Tokyo, it's little bit close.

As an old city, Old Town Takayama has an architecture that is closely related to Japanese history. Actually, Old Town Takayama is now used as a market or shopping center for tourists. Interestingly, each outlet has a traditional architecture that displays the face of Japan in the past. Especially in this area which is more used as a restaurant and souvenir shopping center. They keep traditional Japanese architecture intact. If you notice, the wood used as the main material in the buildings in this area looks old, and is supported by brown paint that makes the impression of this area very traditional.

Those are the Japanese sake barrels placed in front of the restaurant. Some restaurants put sake barrels or rice wine barrels like this, maybe as a sign that they serve Japanese sake (traditional), or yes it is just a decoration to show that this is typical of Japanese culture.

This area looks a bit modern, maybe influenced by street lights, and paved roads, of course with zebra crossings. From here Takayama Old Town looks like street corners in Tokyo. Even so, the traditional and Old Town impression in this area is still felt.

Even though I only stop by for a short while, walking around Takayama Old Town can give you the sensation that you are in old Japan era. Especially if you rent traditional clothes and walk around the place in them, you might feel even more like a local Japanese. I can assure you that you will be happy there.

It was best experiences as long as live in Japan besides the Popular places. I wish I have that nice experience next. Thank you for stopping by my blog.
