Hi everyone, back with part two of an epic trip.

The previous post covered my time spent in Nashville, TN. Now on to San Francisco and soon after Yosemite!

Day One.

Arriving at the airport and first glimpse of the skyline from the cab.

Looking up at our home for the next few days. Designed like a citadel and located right in the heart of everything, The Mariott was built in the 1980's so as was custom in the era, comes complete with a conference center and even a ballroom attached. There is also a sky bar near the top with amazing views of the city.

Quick shot from our room before dumping our luggage and heading out for a short walk east towards the Ferry Building.
Along the way was one of many tram lines all over the city and some really nice architecture of various types.

The Ferry building has been converted into what is essentially a food hall with all kinds of options along with a few bars for good measure!

Alcatraz Island.
No trip to SF would be complete without visiting the notorious island.

Looking back at SF from the boat

Prison guards had the option to live on the island with their families. This building was a large hall where staff members would socialise. Unfortunately there was a huge fire and only the shell remains.

Day Two.
Started with heading to the 'Painted Ladies' which are a small group of houses that a brightly coloured. To be honest, a lot of houses in the surrounding areas were equally if not nicer with a variety of architecture and decorative elements.

Haight Street.
Home of many vintage clothing & smoking stores. Again, the designs of all the buildings and how well maintained they all looked was like being on a movie set.

There was more to the day- I was invited to Lucasfilm for a private tour! I'm waiting to hear back on how much I am allowed to share, they were gearing up for the release of The Acolyte at the time.

The building has a huge amount of trinkets from most of the big movies the company worked on including- Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Roger Rabbit, Star Trek & Pirates of the Caribbean and more.
Most of the items were behind glass cabinets like original costumes, props and rigs for stop motion scenes. There was also quite a lot of stuff just laying around all over place. Cardboard standees from premieres, fan made droids, original toys and larger set decoration/ props. Quite bizarrely, it also has a staff (and visitor) only shop within the offices with the latest LF merch.

The Game Parlour.

All the games you could possibly think of with amazing waffles to keep you going!

SF was very eye opening for me. On one hand, anywhere west was just like any other city. Great examples of period architecture, historic buildings, safe neighbourhoods.
Contrast that with a powerful gut punch of the condition of the east and south of the city.
These areas have the highest concentration of homeless people and I just felt powerless to make any kind of change. Case and point, an example is 'The Tenderloin' area, named as such around the 1930's after police officers taking so many bribes that they could afford the best cuts of steak. There are a few stories about how it got its name! Apparently it's all down to how the local government runs the city coupled with a opioid crisis off the back of that is devastating.

Say no more, until the next time when we head to Yosemite.
