Hello fellow Hiveans!
Tilbury Fort is found on the bank of the River Thames and was built in the 16th century by King Henry VIII to protect London from the French.
There was very little wind but there was a bite of winter chill in the air. The area is very quiet despite being close to a port and other factories.
What once started as a small gatehouse to help defend a bridge to Gravesend on the opposite bank, quickly evolved into what it is seen today. Initial improvements were added due to the threat of invasion from the Spanish Armada. The unique star shaped moats and fortifications were added in preparation for the Anglo-Dutch war in 1670.
As English Heritage looks after it, my take off location was just a bit further along the river.
Slightly trippy vertorama but Lightroom did a good job in handling warping at the edges!
As building techniques developed, newer forts were built along the Thames and Tilbury was turned into a strategic munitions depot used in WW2.
It is a fascinating location to see from above and is very photogenic.
Until the next time!
