A nice lunch outing with my wife to a place on the outskirts of Canberra in Federation Square in Gold Creek. We were wandering around looking for a wedding present for a close family member... and so it was a day of shopping of sorts, and my wife also needed a little bit of a break from a rough schedule of rehearsals and performing.

The Space

There is a pleasant if smallish indoor seating area... but the big draw, especially in the warmer months, is the large covered outdoor area. And as a bonus, there is a section for kids to play in with books, a play set, and various other toys as well!

There is a distinct Alice in Wonderland theme about the place, with lots of signs and posters...

... and all the tables are "numbered" by card number and suit, in keeping with the theme!

... and of course, there is a little bookstore as well! When my wife had described the place, I had thought that it was more bookstore, and less cafe... but it turns out that it is MOSTLY cafe, with a small bookstore!

The Menu

Some pretty standard Australian style cafe fare... nothing too unusual. There is a regular breakfast menu that lasts most of the day... and then from lunch, there is a seperate menu that kicks in for the rest of the day... and then the evening menu, when the place transforms into a sort of pub and family restaurant sort of feeling!

The Food

A chicken wrap for my wife, one that was quite decent and served up with chips.

... meanwhile, I got a steak sandwich on turkish bread. I did have a choice of chips or salad, I probably should have chosen salad as my wife already had chips and we could have shared the two different options. Oh well...

... and the steak sandwich was decent, but not quite the best that I have had.

The Experience

This was a really pleasant outing, and on a warm sunny day... it was a great place to spend a short lunch break. It is a little bit out of the way, but Federation Square is a nice place to spend a couple of hours as well... there are art places, a reptile zoo, a decent pub, and lots of other interesting things to see and do.
