It seems like every second regional town with rocks and a river and some sort of elevation will have a hanging rock of some sort that is a tourist lookout. And all of them have different degrees of "whelming-ness"...
... unfortunately, this one in Nowra... was definitely on the "under" side the "whelming" meter. Luckily we were there for Ben's Walk... an easy little bushwalk that just happened to start and finish at the Nowra Hangin Rock and Showgrounds!
But, seeing as it is a bit of a scenic point... and there are lots of photos from the walk, I'll break this scenic outlook as a different post.
As you walk in from the Showgrounds carpark... there isn't really anything to make it stick out as something special. Just a small sign... and on the day that we were there, it had rained heavily the evening before... and so the actual area of the lookout was muddy and damp.
... and as you get closer to the outlook... well, you start to realise that it is definitely quite different to the photos that you might have seen online! Still... the view is pretty impressive... it would have been a bit better if it wasn't drizzling and overcast.
... and I guess that the fencing is a pretty necessary safety thing... but it sort of tokenistic. If you really wanted you could vault over it... but I guess it is more for the people who accidentally topple over.
Now, if we lean over the safety railing and take a photo from the side, the hanging rock is looking to be a lot more photogenic from this angle!
... and while I was there, a quick photo of the drop-off... and this is the reason for the safety fence. That would be a very long drop if you weren't paying attention whilst trying to get a nice selfie!
