Well... sometimes, there is a bit of a mess up with the bookings for my accommodation for jobs. This time it was also my fault for not checking the actual dates properly... I have had a bit of a busy time, and I neglected to actually check the travelling that I would need to do, and the actual times when I would have a place to stay.
In the end, the ensemble had booked too much time for me (as I was bouncing back and forth between projects... so, one night extra. But on the starting end, they had not booked the evening BEFORE the first rehearsal... which meant that I would either need to travel crazily early in the morning... or figure out a different sleeping solution for that night.
Well, given that I was travelling really late at night (after doing another concert that night...), I was trying to find something that would be really close to the rehearsal the next day. But given the location in one of the really NICE suburbs of Sydney... and given the prices in general in Sydney... well, this Edgecliff Lodge Motel was the best one that I could find that wasn't crazily expensive.
Sadly, arriving at around 2 in the morning meant that there were no parking spaces available... but thankfully, it also meant that it was relatively easy to find on street parking that was free for the night.
This was a nervous moment, as I typed in the code for the key box... for some reason, they change the code every day, and I had to call them in the morning to get the code. I was really hoping that I had heard them properly... but I did have a blanket in the car, just in case...
Yep... this is a pretty old school motel hallway. I guess most people would call it an enclosed balcony?
A very functional small room... but at 2 in the morning, if it had a bed... honestly, I didn't care! But there were a few lovely cockroaches to share the room with!
If you were planning on staying longer, you did have a small kitchenette. But to be perfectly honest, if I was staying longer... I would definitely be booking something a bit further out and something a bit more luxurious to stay in!
... and in the morning, this is the view from the window! Yep, an old sink basin that was either serving as a planter (hopeful...), or was serving as a mozzie breeding ground.
