Phuket does have many temples and one by one we will probably list them all, but many are difficult to find or have very little touristic interest unless you are a Buddhist. Of course you already know that you have to remove you shoes before stepping in and making a donation even small is a nice gesture and ultimately, it is good for you. If you want to visit any temple while travelling around phuket, Phuket Big Buddha is the most renowned and attractive one to visit.
Phuket Big Buddha started in 2002 as the foundation stone was laid by General Phijit Kulawanich, Privy Councilor on May 22, 2002. The official name is 'Phraphutthaming mongkhol akenagakhiri Buddha' that translates as "Happiness on top of Nakkerd mountain".
The Big Buddha of Phuket is a gleaming white 45 metre tall statue that sits atop the highest peak of the Nakkerd Hills in Ao Chalong. Visible from many places across the south of the island, the Big Buddha's become one of the most popular attractions on Phuket.
The Big Buddha is open daily year round, but rainy-day visits would be unpleasant at best since the winds can be strong at he top of the mountain and the road treacherous, and the views would be obscured by clouds and fog. It gets very busy on Thai Buddhist holidays a good time to visit if you're keen to take photos of local cultural activities but best avoided if you don't like crowds.
Getting to the Big Buddha requires a drive through a residential neighbourhood then up a steep and winding road for six kilometres up to the top of Nakkerd Hill. Though the orad surface has been improved in recent years, motorbike riders might find it a challenging journey. Inexperienced drivers should hire a taxi, since accidents are not uncommon along this road. There was talk once of building a cable car to connect the Big Buddha to Kata-Karon but noting has come of it yet. Walking up the hill from base to top takes about an hour-wear a hat because there's not much shade along the way.
As Big Buddha gains popularity as a tourist site, there is ever more commercial activity along the road leading up to it. As of mid-2012 there were at least five restaurants, an ATV riding centre, an elephant riding operation.
Construction is ongoing, with endless additions around the statue's base bing built as well as a concrete staircase, large car park and meditation hall. the statue is frequently wrapped in scaffolding.
It is a tourist attraction but it is also an active temple with monks, so remember to dress appropriately and not to speak too loud as we often hear, unfortunately. At the entrance of the path leading to the temple, security will check your attire. No sleeveless, no short or skirt above the knee, so if you wear short skirts or shorts, they will hand you a free sarong and ask you to wear it. All along the way, you can buy snacks and drinks, but of course, no alcohol is allowed.
Upon arrival there's the usual array of vendor stands selling snacks and souvenir tiems, then visitors are ushered through the meditatoin hall a large open building with a tin roof. At the halli's entrance are a number of amulet sellers, as well as tables displaying several ways to donate to the Big Buddha project. This may be off putting for some but the project is funded entirely by donations. For Thai Buddhists, this is a form of merit making.
Whilst entry to the Phuket Big Buddha in Phuket is to tally free, donations are encouraged. If you donate 100 baht for a marble tile, you are handed a black marker to sign your name and write a message on the tile. Nobody is pressured to donate; donations totally depend on your intention.
Inside the meditation hall is a platform where a line of monks are sometimes seen sitting and chanting.
Phuket Big Buddha is 2.5.45 metres wide at its base and 45 metres high. It is built of reinforced concrete, and adorned with white jade marble shining in the sun, making it antural symbol of hope. The weight of the white jade marble is about 135 tons. The entire spot sits on 49 rai (around 7.8 hectares) and is surrounded by a tropical rain forest. Views inside the structure are very clolurful are very colourful and tidy. This temple is highly impressive and spiritual to locals and international Buddhists.
From up there you will get some pretty stunning bird view on three large bays. Before that day, I always thought they were far from each other. Directly in front of the Big Buddha is Chalong Bay and when the sky is clear, you will see all the way to Phang Nga Bay. Few steps to the west, another short staircase will take you to a terrace from which you'll get a beautiful view of Kata Bay and Kata Noi Bay. You might even recognise Promthep Cape and even Nai Harn Windmill.
Next to the Phuket Big Buddha, there is a smaller Buddha statue that looks golden, but is made of 22 tons of brass worth about 9 million Thai Buht. It is 12 metres in height and very attractive. This statue was dedicated to HM Queen Sirikit.

Dharani Mata
Dharani Mata is one of the goddesses in Hinduism. Known in India as "Prithvi Mata", she represents the Mother Earth. This goddess isn't attested in any Buddhist sutra. Yet, Thai Buddhists Know this name because of a literature of Somdet Phra Maha Somanachao Kromphra Paramanuchichinorot titled Prathom Somphothikatha. Her posture of squeezing water out of her pony tail was first ordered to be built by Somdet Phra Sri Phacharinthara Barom Rachininat, the queen of King Rama V for the supplying public drinking water to people in Bangkok, Prachuapkhirikhan and Ayutthaya, in the year 1917.

Buddha Statue in First Teaching Posture
The First Teaching Posture is the posture of the Buddha while he was giving his first teaching after the enlightenment to the five first disciples in the full moon night of the 8th month at Isipatana Marukatayawan Forest in Baranasi. This event marked the completion of the Three Jewels in Buddhism; namely the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha (monks).
Considering the haeat of the day and the tourist crowds, it is best to visit this temple in the morning. But a late afternoon visit offers a great chance to watch the sunset over Karon bay in the west and Chalong Bay in the east. Consuming Thai dishes at Nakkerd Seaview Restaurant in the evening will be a fantastic experience.

พระใหญ่ เป็นพระพุทธรูปปางมารวิชัยศิลป์แบบร่วมสมัย ขนาดหน้าตักกว้าง 25.45 เมตร ความสูง 45 เมตร โครงสร้างคอนกรีตเสริมเหล็ก ประดับผิวด้วยหินอ่อนหยกขาว "สุริยกันต" (สุริยกันตะ) จากพม่า น้ำหนักเฉพาะหินอ่อนหยกขาวประมาณ 135 ตัน
เนื่องจากวัดพระใหญ่ตั้งอยู่บนเขา การเดินทางก็ต้องขับรถขึ้นไปบนเขา ซึ่งถนนหนทางก็สูงชัน และคดเคี้ยวไปมา ควรขับรถด้วยความระมัดระวัง และต้องใช้เวลาเดินทางร่วมๆ ชั่วโมงเลยทีเดียว ใครที่ไม่เจนทางแนะนำมาแท๊กซี่เลยค่ะ
วัดพระใหญ่ได้รับความนิยม ก็ทำให้กิดกิจกรรมเชิงพาพิชย์มากมายระหว่างทางขึ้นเขาไปยังวัดพระใหญ่ ไม่ว่าจะเป็นร้านอาหาร สถานที่ให้เช่ารถ AVT เพื่อขับขึ้นเขา หรือปางช้าง ที่ให้บริการขี่ช้างจับตั๊กแตน เฮ้ย!!!!..... ขี่ช้างชมความงามของธรรมชาติ
ณ ปัจจุบันนี้การก่อสร้างก็ยังไม่แล้วเสร็จ ก็มีการต่อเติมตกแต่งรอบๆ บริเวณ และจัดที่จอดรถให้กว้างขวางไว้รองรับนักท่องเที่ยวที่มากราบไหว้พระใหญ่ได้รับความสะดวกสบาย
ที่นี่ก็มีระเบียบของกายแต่งกายด้วย คือแต่งกายสุภาพไม่นุ่งสั้นเสมอหู สายดงสายเดี่ยวก็ห้ามค่ะ แต่ถ้าใครมาแบบสั้นเสมอหู ทางวัดก็มีบริการพวกผ้าถุง ผ้าคลุมใหม่ให้ใส่ทับด้วยค่ะ ก็ฟรีค่ะ หรือจะบริจาคลงกล่องตามแต่ศรัทธาก็ได้ไม่ว่ากัน นอกจากข้อห้ามเรื่องแต่งกายแล้วก็ยังห้ามพวกแอลกอฮอล์ด้วย ก็เหมือนวัดทั่วไปๆ นั่นแหล่ะค่ะ
เมื่อแต่งกายเรียบร้อยแล้ว ก็สามารถเดินเข้าไปภายในวัดได้ ภายในวัดจะมีศาลาที่เปิดโล่งๆ ให้เราได้ทำบุญตามศรัทธาแล้ว ก็จะมีจุดบูชาพระเครื่อง หรือจะบริจาคซื้อกระเบื้องหินอ่อน ซึ่งมีราคาแผ่นละ 100 บาท แล้วก็เขียนชื่อตัวเองหรือครอบครัวลงบนกระเบื้อง ถือเป็นการร่วมทำบุญอีกทางหนึ่งด้วยเหมือนกัน ข้างในยังเป็นที่ที่พระสวดมนต์ให้พรกับผู้ที่มาทำบุญอีกด้วย
จากจุดนี้จะมองเห็นวิวรอบๆ เกาะภูเก็ตเลยทีเดียว ไม่ว่าจะเป็นอ่าวฉลอง กะตะ กะรน คือสวยม๊วกกกก..... โดยเฉพาะวันที่ท้องฟ้าใส หลังจากที่กราบไหว้พระใหญ่ และทำบุญเสร็จแล้ว ขากลับก็แวะร้านอาหารที่อยู่ระหว่างทางขึ้นเขานาคเกิด มีร้านอาหารให้เลือกมากมายหลายร้านเลยค่ะ อาหารอร่อย ราคาไม่แพง ที่สำคัญวิวดีม๊วกกกกก....
