Bergamo is a city that is located in the north of Italy and is very well known for its beautiful historic center which is located above a high rock and is known just like Bergamo. This city and its historical heart is easily reached from the international airport of Orio al Serio which is very close (about 30 minutes by bus). If you have time between one plane and another, you can spend some time in Bergamo to visit its beautiful historic center. Many monuments of great value and well preserved that are located right around the main square called “Piazza Vecchia”.
Take a few hours to wander through the narrow streets, have a coffee in the elegant bars of its historic center and browse the nice shops selling local products.
In its shops, along the streets of the historic center, you can find elegant clothing stores, and household items and many curiosities. But there are also many shops that display and sell many delicatessen products, ice creams, cheeses and food in general of the best Italian and local tradition!
The delicious pastry shops, above all, will impress you for the particularity of their productions and the goodness: a joy for the greedy ones. Impossible to resist and not to taste these typical sweets that are beautiful for the eyes and certainly very good. In fact, these shops are always very crowded.
But don't forget to enter the churches that have an extraordinary wealth of furnishings and decorations. Truly remarkable is the decorative apparatus of the Basilica which has a completely decorated interior. If you still have an hour you can take the cable car to go up to the castle and enjoy a beautiful view of the surrounding landscape.
